Sigrid Fridman (1879–1963) was an outstanding female sculptor in Sweden in the 20th century, famous for her depictions of mythology and female images. She studied sculpture at the Ecole des Arts et Meubles in Paris, under the tutelage of the famous sculptor Antoine Bourdelle. Fridman is highly regarded in the art world for her independent spirit and distinctive style. Her masterpiece, the Centaur Garden Statue, is located in Observatorielunden Park in Stockholm and is one of the most representative modern mythological sculptures in Sweden.
This bronze statue shows the image of a majestic centaur: the upper body is a strong man with full muscles, holding a long bow high and leaning back; the lower body is a prancing horse with four hooves off the ground and its tail swinging, full of dynamics.
