Angel guides his way to success. The sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens, in New York City, created this magnificent work to commemorate the civil war heroes in 1903. The work was built in two major cities: New York and Paris. General Sherman sat confidently on his horse, and the embodiment of peace angel guided him. Over the years, the Central Park Conservation Association has tirelessly protected the monument, adding gold foil to the statue and painting it with protective pigment wax.
