1.Introduction of dog memorial garden statues
The Spartan Children’s Museum in Morgan Square stands tall with a striking dog memorial garden statues, paying tribute to a very
special dog, the Border Collie Chaser. This extremely intelligent dog lives with John Pilley, a psychology professor at Watford College,
and is renowned for his exceptional dog memory in history.
In 2004, Piley launched a memory experiment with Chaser as the subject, starting with a blue ball. Pili named objects for Chaser,
such as “Grab Blue” and threw the ball to her. In just a few days, she was able to bring back the blue ball from another room when
asked. A few months later, she was able to recognize words for dozens of objects.
Three years later, Chaser was astonishingly able to name over 1200 items. She not only understands various grammatical forms,
but also can answer questions raised in various ways. She learns very quickly and easily grasps new concepts, thus earning the
reputation of being the “smartest dog in the world”.
In 2019, Chaser passed away, and the Children’s Museum of Sparta erected a lovely statue for her in Morgan Square. The sculpture
vividly presents Chaser’s witty expression and alert posture, becoming a touching place for people to commemorate this extraordinary
dog. This statue is not only a tribute to Chaser, but also a vivid representation of the deep emotions between humans and dogs,
injecting warmth and emotion into the entire square.
