1. Introduction of A Day Out Sculpture
Marguerite Derricourt is an Australian artist known for her animal sculptures and multimedia creations. Her works are usually based on animals, showing the vitality and dynamic beauty in nature. She has a rich creative background, from studying art in South Africa to working in Germany, and then settling in the UK and Australia. Her international experience has injected multiple perspectives and creative inspirations into her sculptures. “A Day Out Sculpture” is a group of bronze pig sculptures created by Derricourt, located on the Rundle Mall pedestrian street in Adelaide.
The sculpture consists of four bronze pigs and a custom-made trash can, with bronze trash piled on top. The four bronze pigs are named Horatio, Oliver, Truffles and Augusta. One of the pigs in the sculpture is climbing up the trash can with its front hooves to look for food, while the other pigs are sitting or standing naturally, showing the living conditions of pigs and their interaction with the surrounding environment in a humorous and dynamic way. These pigs of the A Day Out Sculpture look like they are enjoying a day out. The muscle lines, skin texture, hooves and tails of the sculptured pigs are all carefully portrayed.
