This is a bronze el capitan longhorn statue. It was designed and created by artist Jasper D’Ambrosi to commemorate
Texas’ cattle herding activities in the 19th century. It is a true reproduction of the historical event of Texas driving cows to
Dodge City from 1875 to 1885. This sculpture depicts a Texas longhorned cow, as the leader among the cattle drivers at the
time, showcasing a spirit of bravery and resilience.
Over a decade, over 4 million longhorns were transported from the railway terminal in Dodge City to the Eastern Market,
which had a huge impact on Dodge City’s economic development. The long horned ox has become a symbol of urban prosperity,
closely linked to the history of Dodge City. The Bronze sculpture is exquisite and durable, and its appearance is lifelike, showing
the details and realism of the historical scene of cattle driving. This sculpture was placed in the Newcastle City Centre, becoming
