1. Introduction of Dido Statue Dido (also known as Elissa) was the legendary founder and queen of Carthage, whose story became widely known through Virgil’s epic poem, the Aeneid. According to the epic, the Trojan hero Aeneas, during his wanderings, arrived in Carthage and was received by Dido, with whom he gradually developed feelings for her. However, Aeneas was burdened with a mission to establish a new home in Italy and ultimately left in accordance with divine will. Dido, devastated by his departure, ended her life with her sword on a cremation platform built for Aeneas’s remains.
