1. Introduction of Stratford Canning Bust
Stratford Canning (1786–1880), later Viscount Stratford de Redcliffe, was a 19th-century British diplomat. Much of his diplomatic career was related to the Ottoman Empire and the Eastern Mediterranean. He spent long periods in Constantinople and participated in diplomatic activities between Britain and the Ottoman Empire, Russia, and other countries. He was also sent on diplomatic missions to Switzerland, the United States, and Portugal, and briefly served as a Member of Parliament. This Stratford Canning Bust depicts Stratford Canning in his later years.
The figure is depicted in a frontal half-length composition, with the head slightly turned to one side. The forehead is broad, and the hair is neatly combed back. The eye sockets, bridge of the nose, corners of the mouth, and chin are rendered realistically. He wears a 19th-century formal suit with a wide-lapel coat revealing a waistcoat and bow tie underneath. A radiating star emblem on the chest highlights his diplomatic and aristocratic status. The Stratford Canning Bust is made entirely of white marble, with the clothing’s surface rendered with simple, clear folds to create depth. Arturban Sculpture can customize various figure sculpture.
